Charles J. Gonder, Jr. Memorial Nursing Scholarship

This scholarship honors Charles J. Goner Jr., a pioneer in nursing and the first African American man to graduate from Kalamazoo Valley Community College’s nursing program in August 1976. He dedicated nearly 30 years to nursing, serving at Borgess Hospital, Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital, and the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. The scholarship supports a student entering their second year of the nursing program.
